Micronized wax used for hot melt adhesive processing
The primary functions of micro-wax in hot melt adhesives:
Improving surface properties
Scratch resistance and abrasion resistance: The fine wax particles form a lubricating, dense protective layer on the adhesive film surface, effectively reducing the surface friction coefficient. This makes the adhesive layer less prone to scratching and more wear-resistant.
Slipperiness/Anti-Adhesion: Reduces surface tackiness, preventing adhesive layers (e.g., tapes, labels) from sticking together during winding (back adhesion) and facilitating subsequent processing (e.g., die-cutting, slitting).
Improved Processing Performance
Reduced Melt Viscosity: In its molten state, wax significantly lowers the overall melt viscosity of hot melt adhesives, enhancing flow properties. This facilitates easier application methods (e.g., spraying, coating) and reduces energy consumption in application equipment.
Cost Reduction
Wax is typically priced lower than most polymeric binders. Appropriate addition levels can contribute to a reduction in raw material costs.
